In this slim but pointed treatise, Linda Hirshman unabashedly takes a stand against the trend of educated career women giving up their careers to become stay-at-home moms. In Hirshman?s view, by turning their backs on their hard-won education, women are denying themselves the many rewards that a good job can bring, and she sees this as a betrayal of feminist ideals. Furthermore, society needs the contributions that an intelligent workforce can bring, and when women opt out, we all lose. Choice, she says, is a vastly overrated and wrong-headed concept.
